![]() There is a research tree as well with a satisfactory depth, though I don't see myself playing long enough to really dig into it. Module slots can tweak a given piece of equipment, but the biggest determinant of effectiveness is equipment level (which can't be raised, as far as I've seen). The weapon and armor variety is satisfactory, though a bit of a linear grind. It's all just the same deathmatch combat slog through to the capital (which I've not reached, and don't have the interest to). There are no story objectives beyond this, no unique story scenarios to play. After the tutorial, you're set free in the world sandbox to reclaim territory as you see fit, with the ultimate goal of reclaiming the capital city. Speaking of story missions: aside from the initial set of tutorial missions, there doesn't seem to be a story sequence to speak of. There's no skill progression, so your pilots are basically soul-less interchangeable number bars. Similarly incomplete is how your pilots level up, which increases their health and morale stats slightly, but that's it. These missions seem like tutorials for a mechanic that just doesn't exist in the rest of the game as released, or if they do exist are so opaque and un-obvious that they might as well not exist. These subobjectives are fun in the missions where they appear, but as far as I can tell *they never show up again* after the singular mission they're introduced in, _despite_ future maps including the same destructible infrastructure buildings. Story missions introduce mechanics like destroying generators to disable turrets, or destroying radio towers to prevent enemy reinforcements. Some story missions and supply raids may have objectives, but in the latter case it is far more efficient to just eliminate the enemy. ![]() But these missions all boil down to the same old deathmatch fight. You can intercept (and be intercepted by) patrols, raid supply shipments, and conquer bases in order to raise your war score and eventually reclaim the territory. ![]() ![]() Over the course of the game, you slowly move across the map in your mobile base reclaiming territories conquered by an invading force whose name and motivations are either not explained or utterly unmemorable. But while the combat is amazing, everything else about the game (i.e. Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock), which combined with the mech theme seems like it would be a sure-fire hit. The core combat system is an excellent implementation of the all-too-rare WEGO simultaneous execution genre (e.g. Phantom Brigade is a hybrid real-time and turn-based tactical RPG, focusing on in-depth customization and player-driven stories. This one hurts to not recommend, but as it stands it just doesn't feel like a complete game.
